An online application e-Form for being Hong Kong hospital work observers.
The purpose of this e-Form is to recruit overseas medical students and doctors to be work observers of doctors in hospitals from Hong Kong. Users can fill in their information and upload related documents using this form.
After learning about the concerns and requirements of the client, I have realized some problems that may increase the inconvenience of the users while filling this online application form.
Some questions with fewer answers are using unsuitable input method like drop-down lists which will increase users’ efforts
Some text fields are unclear on what can be input
There are questions with large amount of answers that can be chosen.
There are too many questions with different natures which may be confusing to users.
After some research with multiple UX reference on other existing e-Form, I have proposed some solution to potentially improve the user experience and reduce the input efforts of users:
By changing some of the answer types from drop-down list to checkbox reduce the input efforts of users
Adding a step indicator with clear visibility to present users a clear idea of how many steps are there to get to final stage to reduce chance of abandonment
Questions can be grouped in sections for according to their natures for easier understanding and faster complete rate
Adding input hints for open-ended questions that expect longer answers
